This sprayer does a pretty rough job
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased the CH HVLP sprayer as an alternative to a compressor plus gun setup for spraying clear finishes as well as interior trim paint. The previous CH products that I had purchased had been great. This one has been a great disappointment.
First, the transfer of material to the surface being painted appears to be about as inefficient as a normal high pressure sprayer. This is especially true when spraying higher viscosity coatings that require more airflow in order to move them. The second issue is the fineness of the spray pattern. This unit produces a pretty rough and uneven pattern compared with other units. The air supply hose is a real handicap as it is not only too stiff for easy use, but it has a really nasty chemical smell that just doesn't go away.
Summary, I have a CH compressor, an airless sprayer and this HVLP. I can reccommend the first two without hesitation. This last is just not worth it. Get a Fuji, Apollo or perhaps the top of the line Wagner. They are all $500 or more, but at least they do the job.

Don't buy this product
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I own this sprayer and it is not woth the money. You cannot get a fine spray pattern from this unit. The air cap is poorly machined and the turbine does not supply enough CFM. Spend more money and get an Accuspray system.

Good results and a great value
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I use this sprayer for a number of household projects: varnishing, painting, etc., and haven't encountered the trouble the other users have. I'm sure there are better HVLP sprayers, but at twice the price? Unthinned latex is applied rough, but it smooths as it dries, and thinned latex is applied plenty smooth -- much smoother than a brush. Perhaps if you need a sprayer for high gloss finishes, you may need better, but for semigloss trimwork and varnishes, this does the trick just fine for me.

The HV2000 is Great
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I do not understand the poor reviews that this product apparently has received. I purchased an HV2000 in 1994 to paint the maple kitchen cabinets I had just made and installed in my house and to avoid the huge overspray that my conventional high pressure spray system would have given.
After one undercoat and two finish coats of oil-base enamel, I had a product that was as smooth as glass and one that was considerably better than my conventional spray system would have given.
I have since used this HVLP to paint my garage (I installed Hardy plank)with equally good results. (The neighbors would have objected to the huge overspay of conventional systems; painters in this neighborhood normally use brushes.)
Note: I use oil-based paint exclusively and thin according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

This thing is great!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am so impressed with this product and I too am surprised by the not so great reviews. I have a feeling that the people who don't like this product are people who have significant experience with other paint sprayers . . . People who like to thin the paint, tweak knobs, make adjustments, etc., etc., etc. This is a ($) paint sprayer. . . it doesn't have a lot of knobs and whistles and probably isn't very forgiving in some respects (compared to ($) paint sprayers).
This was my first time ever using a paint sprayer. I read through the manual, (especially the part where it specifically says to not mess with anything), poured in the paint . . . and I was off spraying (I didn't need to thin the paint!). There is only one knob to adjust the volume of paint that is coming out . . that's all that I needed. It worked great and the finish is smooth and even (I painted my veneer kitchen cabinets using a BIN primer and an Alkyd based semi-gloss).
This is the perfect paint sprayer for the do it yourselfer. Just RTFM and don't mess with anything. Also, pick paints that don't require thinning (the one's I used specifically stated that you shouldn't thin it . . . RTFM)

Earl Shibe eat your heart out
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
For years I have avoided paying [price] plus to paint my car. I usually end up rolling and brushing on paint. For [price] this Cambell-Hausfeld did a terriffic job. No brush marks and looks fine for my purposes.I find in Northern New England one winter can ding your paint job up enough to warrant a touch up. I have never been able to use spray cans other than primer on a car. This unit takes some experimenting with paint and air mixtures but other than that it is simple.

Painted Kitchen Cabinets
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I started a started a project of painting my kitchen cabinets with rollers and brushes. I had 2/3rds of the primer on and just gave up, it was too time-consuming and difficult. I logged on, found this paint sprayer and have just completed the project. I've never used a paint sprayer before but found this very easy to use. Only one knob to control the flow and a trigger to spray. Very easy. The paint applied beautifully and it looks professional. I was worried about runs in the paint, but it rarely happened; only if the sprayer got too close. I used if for both latex and oil-based enamel. At first the oil-based paint would not come out. I discovered I was not thinning the paint enough. It is easy to disassemble and clean. I am never going back to brushes and rollers.

THE WAY TO GO!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was a little leary to try a paint sprayer but with a big kitchen job I had no other choice. I read the instructions and took a trip to the paint store and explained what I was doing and had help picking the proper paint.I used a latex primer which I strongly suggest doing for the first time using the gun. It preformed greatly, and by the time I was a third of the way through I was feeling very confident with this sprayer. It is easy to use and changing the spray pattern could'nt be easier. Being water base paint the clean-up (which I was regretting)could'nt of been easier also.If you are looking to do large products and want to cut down on the time and also get a excellent finish you cannot go wrong with this gun.

excellent product
Rating:5 out of 5 stars

Great product. Example:
Project... paint dinette set twice yearly due to children abuse.

historical approach... two hours brush paint time; 1/2 gallon paint; fair to middlin paint job.

with Campbell Hausfeld HV2000... fifteen minutes paint time; 1 pint of paint; excellent finish/paint job.
Clean up is about the same as with rollers and brush, only I don't feel like I am wasting my time...I usually have to throw out the cleaned rollers and brushes anyway as they never really get cleaned.
Overall, excellent, excellent product. Highly recommended. Did equally well on other jobs too.

Outstanding for detail
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I recently purchased this paint sprayer to repaint the entire inside of my home, interior walls, trim and doors with latex paint. The spray gun has overall been an excellent purchase, with a few minor gripes.
I had originally wanted to use the gun to paint the walls, but as it turns out it takes much longer to spray the walls then it does to roll the walls. The area where the spray gun really shines, however, is on all the corners, the trim and the doors. The longest part of painting a room for me has always been the painting the little details, for example the edges of the windows or the corner between the ceiling and the wall. Using the spray gun for these tricky areas in combination with a roller for the walls has made my life so much easier. In addition, it is very easy to control to overspray, and put paint only where you want it.
The spray gun does have a few downsides, though. The trigger tends to get stuck in the pulled-back position sometimes, which has led me to accidently spray paint all over the place a few times when I thought the trigger had disengaged. The motor is very very loud, and sounds like a really noisy vacuum cleaner. While the gun comes with a 25 foot air hose, I found myself wanting a longer one, just to put the air motor as far away as possible.
Overall, this gun make it very easy to do all the detail work, and is well worth the money, even with a few minor issues.

handy unit
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
bought this about 6 months ago for cabinet and bookshelf painting in a home renovation project. finally got to the shelves.....
i have always found brushes cumbersome for all those inside corners. this sprayer does just fine except for the paint can being too large for tight spaces, and the hose being fairly stiff.
i found the spray pattern and coverage adequate with very little problem with runs or overspray.
i don't have experience with other hvlp's, but this one seems to deliver a decent quality job for the cost.

For [the money], what do you expect
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am an amateur woodworker (I like to design and build Scandinavian style furniture) who also does many improvement projects around the home. I subscribe to the philosophy of "why pay someone when I can do it myself." So, sometimes projects take longer than originally planned (and I occasionally get in a little hot water with my wife). I purchased this sprayer not knowing what to expect, but not wanting to spend [lots of money]for a tool that will definitely NOT get daily use in my shop. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of this sprayer. I have been spraying mostly latex paint to date, and this is the first HVLP spray system that I have been able to play with, and I have gotten good results with little sags, runs or drips. The transfer rate could be quicker, but that's the reason why you would spend two and one-half to three times as much for a commercial quality system.
When first applying the latex, the paint surface appears "mottled", but smoothes out rather well in the drying process. Though not totally smooth (don't plan on painting your car with this gun), it has that "sprayed-on" look that is much more attractive than either brush marks or what you get from a roller or mini-roller (though a mini roller used to be me weapon of choice). I would recommend that you thin your latex paint with a product by the Flood Company called Floetrol, this is a latex paint conditioner that I have gotten excellent results with in comparison to thinning with water. Flood also makes a thinner for oil-based paints called Penetrol, but I have not yet used it.
I wish that Campbell Hausfeld supplied a funnel to measure the proper viscosity of what you wish to spray (like you get with a Wagner airless paint sprayer), this is my biggest complaint about the tool. The "drip stick" provided is pretty much useless.
I would recommend this sprayer heads and shoulders over an airless spray system. This gun has never "spit" out paint, and I have never used a PowerPainter that didn't spit during the course of the job. The rate of transfer is very forgiving and clean up isn't too bad. Be sure to dry the parts after cleaning with the air hose as directed, it works great. Also, be sure to clean the gun immediately after finishing the spray job; otherwise, plan on replacing the gun. (By the way, I haven't made this mistake............yet.)
I am looking forward to spraying some clear wood finishes and believe that I will also get good results. I really like a Hood Finishing product called Hydrocoat Polyshield which is an amazing waterborne clear polyurethane. I'm chomping at the bit to fill my spray cup with it; I just have to complete another furniture project in order to get the chance. Be sure to invest in a good respirator and hearing protection. The air turbine is very loud and you might as well save your lungs.
Happy spraying (at a descent price)!!!

I now see lots of things I can paint
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I began my search for a paint rig after I saw a conventional sprayer at a warehouse store for really cheap. After some research, I learned about a HVLP conversion gun that requires a compressor - a BIG compressor. Since I don't want to own a giant tank, and I wanted HVLP, I started looking at this model. I'm very pleased with my decision. I've painted three ugly lateral file cabinets for our office. They look great. Here's the measure of success for me: I bought used cabinets for $250, got a bid from a body shop to paint them for $350. Instead, bought this sprayer, paint, and took an afternoon to goof around with it - Total cost: $500.00 including cabinet price. My paint job looks great. The bonus is that I'm geared up to take on some home painting projects that I've been dreading.
About the tool: Solid construction, easy adjustment, simple to use. I like the volume of paint. It's not too fast, just a really stable, steady flow of material. There is a very logical assembly of just 6 or 7 parts so cleanup is quick and easy. Also a small point that is important to me is that there is on-board tool storage for the wrench, paint tube brush, spare parts, etc. The turbine is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Finally, believe the HVLP claims of very low overspray. I am most impressed with this aspect of the sprayer.
Overall, a very good tool for an occasional user with reasonably high expectations.

Overall, a very excellent tool for an rare user with virtually high expectations.

Can't find parts!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Repeated attempts to e-order replacement parts have been futile. With only one (CH recommended) supplier in my area, I didn't have any other choice. The supplier took SIX WEEKS to get a simple part (spray needle), and then the part was WRONG (tho the part-number on the package matched the part-number that came with the unit's manual). I think CH needs to offer parts directly to the consumer, "web-style"! Jerry D.

Item is not what's pictured.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I ordered the Campbell Hausfeld HV2000 based on the pic on Amazon's website and discussions with the folks at Campbell Hausfeld. The CH people told me that this model has the MP3311 spray gun (this is what is pictured). So I went ahead and ordered it.
The gun that came with the unit was a lower quality gun that would come with HV1000 series systems. It had an aluminum cup and tip...but that was it. The rest of the gun was plastic. Very cheap. Very disappointing. I could have purchased this same unit at home depot for much less.
Note that the 1-star rating is not due to the performance of the unit as I never bothered to use it. I used a CH HVLP in the past and was happy with it's performance.
This one is going back to Amazon, and I'll order the HV2500 instead.

The right tool for the right job.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I never wrote a review before but just bought this sprayer yesterday and was so please I had to tell someone. I have to say that I only used it for about 3 hours so I don't know if this is enough time to give an acurate reveiw but here it is: I was staining the ceiling in my Gazebo which is 5/4 treated decking. I used a brush and it took me about 6 hours to stain a little less than half of the job. My hands were covered in stain and it was also driping on the floor below. I tried a mini roller and had even more mess. I stopped by HD and picked this up on the way home. I had to buy thr floor model so I didn't have the manual. But it is so easy to operate it didn't matter. I poured paint in the gun flipped a switch climbed the ladder and I was off. I stained the other half of the ceiling and 2nd coated the 1st half in about 3 hours plus had 2 beers. I had less mess than when I used a brush and it even covered better than the brush. You could only put so much stain on the brush at a time or it would drip or run down your arm. With the sprayer it put on a nice even coat and covered great. I recomend this to anyone staining decking and could see how it would nice for staining furniture. I stained my whole deck two different colors of solid stain and used a roller and a brush. My deck is 44'x16' and it took me about 3 weeks for three coats. I can't wait to try this thing next time.

Cons: Not really any cons but if I could have anything different it would be nice to have a longer hose and I think I whill chop the power cord. You need a extention cord anyway so the cord that comes with it just gets in the way for transporting and storing. It would be nice to have metal instead of the plastic gun but I don't think I would like to add any more weight after painting over head for 3 hours.

I only gave 4 stars because I only used it 3 hours. So far this is a 5 star purchase.

Bad Idea
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
As a woodworker with a full spray booth and professional equipment, I was looking for something portable to repair a damaged panel on a job site (Movers dropped a large object against sequenced panels). I was hoping to tape off the area and blend the finish. I tested the machine in my shop spray booth first, and I am glad I did. Put it this way, unless you are using this to water your plants forget using this machine. Anything you attempt to spray through this must have the consistancy of filtered drinking water. It either spits out clumps or it works like the Miracle Grow fertalizer gun on your garden hose. Save your money. Lastly clean up is a disaster.

Would Recommend
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I would highly recommend this sprayer to any homeowner. After reading some of the reviews on this site I was skeptical, however this sprayer performed well beyond my expectations. It works great in fact. Very simple to use. You can adjust the spray pattern from vertical to horizontal to round by turning the nozzle. Adjust the amount of paint using a knob above the handgrip. And you can lessen the airflow with a dial on the side. I have had no problem figuring out what each adjustment does and neither should you, just give it a try on a piece of cardboard. I've had no drips from the gun or globby splatters. Just fine spray pattern. Haven't tried it for stain or shellac yet but I expect it to work even better than paint because those are thinner than paint. Cons for this sparyer, or for HVLP sprayers in general: You have to thin thick paints. Not a problem for myself but it may be for you. I used a product called "Floetrol" made by Flood. It works great. CH includes a little tool for estimating how thick you paint is which is very handy. Second Con is...noise. The little unit sounds just like a "shopvac"...just like it. I use hearing protection and problem solved. Cleaning the gun is quite easy. You can take the thing apart with a supplied wrench and submerge the whole thing in water or whatever cleaner you're using. Takes about 10-15 min max. Hope this helps.

Great product.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this sprayer to do various jobs around the house. I started off doing a utility room. No more having to cut in with a brush in the corners, this sprayer gets it all. It did a great job although I wish I would have ordered the thick material needle kit. This sprayer only comes with the medium and thin needles. The medium still worked well with the latex paint I was spraying. After the utility room I started on some pieces of trim. I always paint trim pieces before I install them and this worked great. All the grooves in the door casings got painted and the finish was smooth. Six panel doors, not a problem. All the nooks and crannies got a coat of paint on them. I haven't used it for staining and finish coats but from my experience so far I can't imagine any problems.

Good little sprayer.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I read a lot of reviews about this sprayer before making the purchase, and they helped alot, but there were still some surprises, mostly good.
First, I haven't had any clogging problems. Cleanup takes a bit longer than normal, but it's not bad.
Second, this unit is not as loud as advertised. In my garage, with the doors open, it's not bad, and I haven't felt the need for earplugs. It is not as loud as my shopvac.
Third, the overspray problem that some have complained about, does not seem to be a problem for me.
I was surprised by the heat buildup in the spray gun and hose... the low pressure air is very warm, but it is not a real problem.
The only negative I can offer, is that the coverage rate is a little slower than I expected.
I think this is a great sprayer for the money.

Works great (Norm Abrams has one)
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I'm very pleased. Works great. Clean up is a snap. It takes a while to thin interior latex paint to a point that it can be sprayed, but once I figured that out no problems.

I was tickled to see Norm Abrams using a similar HVLP on The New Yankee Workshop two weeks after I bought mine.

When it works, it's great. When it doesn't....
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I am super-impressed with the powdery spray finish I can get with the HV2000. The kitchen cabinets I painted with it look fantastic. I don't find the noise or the plastic gun to pose any problems. And I like the compact design.

However, I have had a difficult time getting consistent operation from this sprayer. Sometimes it works great. Sometimes, though, I have problems getting it to spray consistently, or at all. It spurts out some nice blasts for a few seconds, then nothing, then a few more seconds of spray, etc., etc., Then it often stops completely. Even cleaning the paint tube and the nozzle, then thinning the paint to the point where it drips easily on vertical surfaces, sometimes doesn't coax the spray out.

The little aluminum drip gauge they supply to test the paint thickness is confusing and imprecise.

I haven't used other spray guns, so I have nothing to compare this with, but to me, the cleanup procedure gets annoying. It's very difficult to get this thing clean, and it takes a long time.

I'll only use this for times when I want the professional look of the sprayed finish. Otherwise, it's too much trouble. I'd happily pay 50 percent more for something that works better.

Sometimes, though, I have problems getting it to spray consistently, or at all. It spurts out some nice blasts for a few seconds, then nothing, then a few more seconds of spray, etc., etc., Then it often stops absolutely. Even cleaning the paint tube and the nozzle, then thinning the paint to the point where it drips easily on vertical surfaces, sometimes doesn’t coax the spray out.

The small aluminum drip gauge they supply to test the paint thickness is confusing and imprecise.

I haven’t used other spray guns, so I have nothing to compare this with, but to me, the cleanup procedure gets annoying. It’s very hard to get this thing clean, and it takes a long time.

I’ll only use this for times when I want the qualified look of the sprayed end. Otherwise, it’s too much distress. I’d happily pay 50 percent more for something that works better.

Worked great for 8 years
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this sprayer when I was building my house years ago and have used it on tons of woodwork and walls. I am still using the same unit and it works as good as the day I bought it. I am very deligent about cleaning it, which may lead to longer life. Only complaint is it is a little loud. I have not used it for heavy, latex paint, but can vouch that for finishes, etc it works great.
