beware the reconditioned units
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My husband bought a reconditioned unit on ebay. Attempted to use it the first week of arrival. The motor would not run, only hum. 90 day warranty covered the motor substitution but he had to paint the room by hand. Several choice words were used to express the frustration. It sat for two years in our basement with the new motor. Used it for 20 minutes and it stopped spraying – no pressure. He found a pool of oil at the base of the unit. Tore it apart, found a loose bolt. Tightened, refilled with oil and it ran fantastic after that. Place two gallons of paint through it with no problems, no oil leaks, etc. Very poor Quality Assurance program. Nice product once he got the bugs worked out. Use the sprayer before the warranty runs out!!
Not excellent but not terrible

This is perfect for outdoor use. If used indoors be prepared for over spray. Clean up of the equipment takes time and the unit is rather noisy. The power plug on the unit is very small so an extension is a must.
TIME SAVER
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We built a tool shed 12′ X 16′ started out small finished up with an upstairs & a pourch on it. Thought this airless sprayer would save a small time!!!! I reckon it just about saved us enough to pay for itself with this one job. Like it & the clean up was very simple! Just follow the directions. We used exterior latex paint,(very thick) did not thin it at all, the pump had no problem at all with it. Thanks a lot
Did not work coming out of the box
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After researching this product, I bought it. Received it and took it out to use it and it would not work. After fiddling some, I called the 800 number. They questioned me the usual questions (Is it plugged in, pain in the bucket, etc.) Finally had me take it apart and loosen a ball bearing. They said they were having a problem with the ball bearing from the factory and got a lot of these calls. After loosening the ball, it worked fantastic. Cleaned it up and place it away. A couple of months later, got it out to use it again. It won’t work again. Now the screws are stripped so I can’t get to the ball bearing and fix it again. Buy one at your own risk. If it doesn’t work new out of the box and they know they are having that problem and don’t fix it, I would be wary.

Have had distress with this out of the box, difficulty priming, won’t hold pressure. I had a excellent full day last weekend (when it works, it’s fantastic), thought I’d figured out how to squeeze some work out of this thing, but in the middle of staining it lost pressure. Motor sounds excellent, but the hydraulic system won’t ‘click’ to pressurize the system. Took it apart, checked the oil level, all the actions in the troubleshooting, no excellent. Excellent weather and nothing getting done, wish I’d spent a small more $ and gotten something more reliable.
Taking it to the repair shop.

At least I got to spray my kitchen and drive gate. I probably have a total of 2 hours on the sprayer. During the cleaning cycle, the sprayer pump chose to stop working. Shortly after, I saw oil dripping form the motor. But I have to say it sprays well when it’s working. Thankfully, it is still under warranty (1 year).
The Worst Buy I’ve Made Yet on Amazon
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This should be a negative star. Works gerat if you’re spraying with water, but it will die on you if you use a quality paint. I will be returning this. Do not buy this. Otherwise, you’ll most likely end up returning it as well. Unless, of course, you like to spray with water.

DOA out of the box!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this item in August for a project requiring me to paint 12 six-panel doors. The cost was about the same as renting a commercial sprayer, and I’d have the flexibility to work when I could. I was tremendously disappointed when I prepped and hung the doors for painting, only to find the unit deadly-no power at all. There was the standard “Don’t return me! Call this toll-free number for help!” sheet. Guess what? The number directed you to contact one of the service centers listed in the product manual. Guess what? They’re not open on weekends. Guess what? When I did call the following Monday, they not compulsory I return the unit to the place of buy. So I did. I applaud Amazon for their prompt and efficient return policy. I finished up buying a Fuji sprayer from Amazon during one of their tool sales for about $100 more. This unit was much more applicable to the tasks I needed it for (doors+trim). It was more expensive, but it is a qualified quality unit and I don’t intend to stop painting things around the house.
Vital non-documented tip!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The sprayer works quite well–be forwarned: you go through *a lot* of paint–if you reckon you need a gallon, get two.
But **most vital**–spray at the lowest square pressure, and when you are not spraying, even for a minute to rearrange your spray area, switch the dial to prime. This bleeds the pressure out of the system. If you don’t do this, you can wear out the prime spray valve very quickly–I know
It’s not an expensive repair, but generally getting these things fixed is a matter of weeks, not days.
4 stars for when it works, 1 star deducted for the poor citations.
Husband Really Likes It
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We bought this house painter in order to prime and paint our new deck and to re-paint our house. My husband really is pleased with the spray painter and so is our neighbor who is waiting to use it. Just have to wait for the rain to stop so we can end. We would recommend this product.
Did not hold up
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
the system worked well. I first tried spraying water through it and it primed quickly.
I sprayed a 10ft. by 18ft. deck with latex deck paint top and bottom within an hour. The only thing holding me back was I ran out of paint. I went through two gallons in no time. The control was simple to adjust and fine tune.
The only drawback was I had a 5 gallon bucket of clean water to run through it and I had to hold the unit above the bucket until the main suction hose filled up and bled out all of the air. The case could be higher so a large bucket would fit beside it with out that small distress.

Has been used several times since buy, Just sprayed 6 gallons of aluminum paint on shop roof, very smooth, cleaned up very quickly with mineral spirits and paint thinner. Nice even coat, added a 50 ft. hose, unit was on ground and pumped up over 12 feet, unremitting use and duty for two hours very nice product.

I was glad I bought an extended warranty for this, IT went terrible while spraying some latex on a garage interior wall, the paint started to ooze out of the spray gun and the pump started to loose pressure, It wouldn’t even pump water to clean it out properly. I called the warranty company and sent it back with a prepaid mark. After about a month I did not hear from the warranty co. So I called them, The sprayer got lost in transit So they sent me a refund check for my distress. I then went to ebay and ordered a Graco Magnum dx sprayer It was only ten dollars more than the campbell hausfeld and free shipping with a quart of protectant oil and a whip hose. It has more pressure than the campbell Hausfeld and is a medium duty unit that will serve well

Applies a nice end with small overspray, but very slow. Fantastic sprayer for stains or lacquers but too slow for latex paints. I bought it to paint the interior walls of our new house. It took two hours to paint an entire room. I finished up renting a commercial sprayer (Titan 440i) and had the same room painted in less than 15 min. In fact, I painted the entire 4500 sq ft house in 1 day with the Titan.
If you only need to paint a small or have lots of time on your hands then you should consider this sprayer, otherwise stick with the commercial sprayers.

Painter worked fantastic. It primed simple once I followed the tips that were included. It painted quick and cleaned simple. I used it to place 4 coats of paint on a 1500 sq-ft basement. My only complaint is that the paint spattered each time I sqeezed the trigger. I finished up rolling as I painted the first two coats to blend in the huge drops. I e-mailed Campbell Hausfield and got a quick first response, but they haven’t answered since I gave them the info they requested. It seemed to perform the same whether the gun filter was clogged or clean. The paint was interior latex primer and satin end. Both paints were unthinned and both spattered the same. I reckon the whole problem is in the gun, probably the incorrect size tip.
Fantastic when it works

In the $200 price point, there are not a lot of sprayers like this one. I picked it for it’s price and cleanup ease compared to the other sprayer I looked at.
Other reviewers complained about difficulty priming the sprayer. I had the same problem. I highly recommend you verify that it will spray water before you get out the paint and try to go to work. It took a few minutes, but the distress shooting directions in the manual got me past the problem.
I sprayed two rooms and was very pleased with the results. I got one coat coverage and it used about the same quantity of paint I would have expected to use with a roller but in a much shorter time. The overspray was pretty simple to control, but of course you should plot to mask off things you don’t want painted.
Sorry to say, after the two rooms were painted, I chose to stop and clean up because I didn’t have any other rooms ready for painting. During cleanup, which involves pumping clean water through the unit, it partially clogged and could no longer deliver high pressure to the gun, I spent more than an hour attempting to clean the pump at low pressure, but was never able to get it to switch to high pressure mode to end the job.
I called the suggested 800 number for help the next day and they suggested I take it to a local service center for service, which I did. Sorry to say, they had never seen this model before and they had to call for help too. It was several days before I got the unit back, during which time I hand painted with a roller. The fix, they told me, was more disassembly and cleaning.
After getting the unit back, I used it to paint doors and was very pleased with the results. During cleaning, it clogged again! This time I tried adding lots of soap solution to the water and used a much warmer solution: Finally it started pumping at full strength again and I was able to end cleanup.
My final comments are:
- It does a nice job when it works
- The power cord is too small: it won’t even reach an outlet when the unit is placed right against the wall.
- The valve handle on the unit does not fit the hand and is hard to turn, especially when wet.
- Hose management is hard during spraying because the hose is so stiff and springy.
- Cleanup with warm soapy water and plot to pump about five gallons of it before you are done. Follow up with clean warm water.
- Would I buy the unit again? Yes, but sadly I painted most of my house by hand because of the problems I had and I didn’t have time to wait for service.

It’s fantastic for outdoor painting. Spray sorda goes the world over. I was hoping to use it for interior as well, but reckon I’d have to tape off and run plastic the world over as the sprayoverage would get on all.
Can’t be beat.

I bought this earlier this spring. I painted my two tale home as well as a large storage shed and the painter’s routine was flawless. Sprayer cleans up very simple, which is a plus. The ONLY thing I would recommend is to get a longer hose. On a two tale home the hose is to small.
Brilliant, economical sprayer for an rare DIY handyman. I would highly recommend.

I should’ve believed what others had written about this expensive doorstop. I have never been able to get the pump to prime, thus have never been able to paint a thing. I’m painting for personal use, not for qualified, and therefore have use of this item on weekends, when Campbell Hausfeld’s customer service is not available. I’m REALLY not pleased with this waste of money, but small of bringing the unit to work with me and trying to get CH customer support on the phone at my office, I don’t know how I’m going to get any use out of this. The VP’s around me will be thrilled with the sound of a compressor motor coming from my office, don’t you reckon?

I wanted to buy the Wagner Painter at first untill I read the reviews at Amazon’s web site, they quickly changed my mind.I buy EZ5000 from amazon.com after checking prices it was the best buy with free shipping, I ordered it Friday and it was here the following Wednesday. The discharge check valve was stuck ,which is common from pretesting of unit the only thing I reckon they should supply is a swivel for the spray gun, the hose is stiff and the swivel allows you to keep the gun pointing in the right direction and if you have to spray low you can easily turn gun upside down, it will save your wrist and arm.PAT GALLAGHER
Do not buy this. It is a p.o.s.

I ordered this product to do some ceiling painting for a property I was about to rent. I covered all with plastic and tape, including the floors. It arrived, and the knob wouldn’t even go. Stuck in place. It was as if it was a prop T.V. set with the knob only painted on. I returned it for a substitution thinking that this must be a fluke. When the new one arrived after the new tenant had already went in, I opened it straight away to make sure it looked alright. (The knob really turned this time.) So I brought it upstairs (this was in a high rise condo.) I opened my can of paint attatched the nozzle, plugged it in and zip. They sent me another one that was absolutely dead. It never even tried to work. I bought the Wagner version which was really quite a bit cheaper. It has worked fine on my last two projects.
I would give this a 0 if I could

I really wanted to like this item. Bought it to paint our T&G ceiling. It worked fine the first and second use (both less than 30 min. ea.). Cleanup took 30 minutes ea. time, but it isn’t hard. Then we installed about 200 lf of fence. Bought Behr latex based solid color stain and new .015 tip to stain the fence. Waited for sunny/windless morning. Plugged unit in…it wouldn’t prime. Fought with the inlet/outlet valves for 30 min. Finally, unit primed. Worked for about 10 minutes and then the unit stopped ‘knocking’ and lost pressure at the gun. Tore the unit apart the theater each of the troubleshooting items found in the manual…nothing worked. Called C&H, they fedexed a new one. The new unit came out of the box with a broken outlet valve (it made a ringing sound when went). Luckily, I still had the ancient one. Swapped out the valve, got the unit to prime, commenced spraying. It worked for less than five minutes. Same failure. I will be boxing both units back up tonight.
Paint Sprayer – first a dud, second works fine
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I had several pieces of 4×8 lattice to paint, and I didn’t relish the thought of painting by hand, so after reading some reviews of the EZ5000 I bought it via Amazon. I called C-H once because I couldn’t prime the unit; I missed the addition to the manuals which told me to take off the hose fitting on top of the unit and
push in the bearing. I place 1/2 gallon of Sherwin Williams exterior latex paint through it, and the spray kept getting weaker and weaker. After cleaning the unit, I tried painting the lattice with Olympic deck stain. Nothing came out of the sprayer, the paint just oozed out of the tie with the gun. I found the nearest C-H service center and dropped off the unit. The serviceman called back after looking at the unit and said that C-H told him not to bother with repairs; C-H would send a new pump unit.
The service center did a pressure test and all checked out, so I picked up the new unit. I used it to paint six pieces of 4×8 lattice and the framework which covers my patio. All worked fine, although I went through nearly four gallons of paint when I thought I would need two. I might have had the pressure set too high, thus spraying out too much paint.
Clean-up was simple – two gallons of soapy water and it was ready to go back in the box. I beyond doubt want to find one of those Graco swivels mentioned in another review.
Decent airless paint sprayer for a excellent price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The EZ5000 was hard to prime the first time I used it. I had to free up the inlet and outlet valves and let the unit run for a few minutes to bleed air from the hydrolic system. I spent at least 30 minuts messing with this before it started to pump paint.
Once primed, the painting went quick and simple. I place three gallons on the house in about and hour and a half and the end looks fantastic. The unit runs honestly silent and the spray gun feels well built and comfortable. A hose swivel on the spray gun is a must to reduce fatigue. With the latex paint I was using, cleanup only required running a few gallons of water through the pump, hose, and spray gun.
My only complaint is that information, substitution parts, and accessories don’t seem to be available yet. I did find the Graco “Straight Hose Swivel” (244515) and quarter inch id extension hoses work well with the EZ5000. The Graco power roller doesn’t work with the EZ5000 though.
I’m very pleased with the EZ5000 but very miserable with Campbell Hausfeld due to their poor communication and parts availability. In the end, I’ve chose to sell my EZ5000 and buy a Graco Magnum DX instead. Being able to buy parts and accessories at the local national home improvement chain will result in less frustration and downtime.
Fantastic sprayer!

I wanted to paint the unfinished attic in my garage, lots of frames and cross-beams. I looked at the Wagner models, but the reviews were so-so, with lots of complaints about poor spray patterns, paint stringers, paint hoppers/canisters and cleanup hassles. Then I came across this product. The only review was glowing, so I took a chance, and could not be more pleased with the results.
This sprayer is fantasic. It’s simple to set up and operate. It had no problems with primer or paint, no thinning was needed. Paint is drawn right from the can, no hopper or bottles. The spray gun is all metal and works fantastic. The pressure can be adjusted to achieve the perfect spray pattern for the type of paint. The long hose (20 ft?) meant I never had to go the unit to reach the whole work area. I’ve only used water based prodcuts, but cleanup is very simple, no disassembly required. And the option to buy a power roller attachment makes it much more versatile than Wagner sprayers. I highly recommend this product.
Brilliant!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First I bought one of the Wagner power painters, one of the cheaper models, at Lowes. It nearly ruined my project, kept spraying huge globs of paint and wouldn’t spray a mist consistently and beyond doubt not at all if angled downward. I returned it.
I then bought this EZ5000. What a fantastic tool this is…it saved me an incredible amount of time, gave qualified results, and functioned impeccably. You can paint straight down, straight up, or any angle in between. I painted 18 doors in about 3 hours. If you are thinking about buying one, go ahead and get it, you will be pleased you did.
My only mistake was taking the free shipping option, it took longer than most “free shipping” items from Amazon to get to me, and I wish I had spent the money to get it shipped quickly because I needed it to use more than I needed to save the shipping cost. If you need it quickly, pay for the shipping.
Fantastic help

I also had distress priming the sprayer for the first time. To test the unit and clean out any “junk” from the factory, I tried to run water through the unit. I followed the troubleshooting recommendation – make sure the intake value moves freely. It took 4-5 attempts before it finally worked. I was frustrated removing and replacing the tube each time. After it primed for the first time, I have not had any distress with priming or cleaning since then. (Correction: I needed to follow the troubleshooting technique a few times in later uses.)
I have used twice so far. Once on trim before I installed and second on some ancient furniture. The trim looked nice, but I could not tell how well the unit worked until I did the furniture. It made an categorically gorgeous coat. Aside from the imperfections in the ancient furniture, the paint looks qualified. I am quite pleased with this buy.
I was glad that I made a spray room for myself. The sprayer has a small bit of a kick. A couple times I painted the drop cloth on the wall as I was painting the furniture. No special clothing was required. A mask is helpful. Make sure the area is isolated because you will have paint in the air. You don’t want it to get onto other stuff.
Clean up was so simple. I run about 2 gallons through the overflow hose and a 3rd gallon through the hose and nozzle. The unit cleans easily.
Technical problems
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The piece of equipment was promptly shipped and received keeping this above a 1 star rating. When it got here the various positions control knob was frozen and unable to be turned. I then chose to test it out by running water through it before sticking the hoses in a bucket of paint. Dissambly to free outlet ball check valve and paint gun was necessary, then spent three hours cleaning machine. It most likely had been shipped with a “preservative” having been run through it. Whatever they used had set up and hardened freezing up all controls. Call to service center yeilded negative results in solving the problem. Out came the tools crescent wrench, pliers, metal picks, and pipe wrench 14″ Stilson (to turn knob)to free it up. After cleaning and reassembly ran 3 gallons of hot and then very hot soapy water, then 1 gallon clean water through the machine all worked well rumor has it that following this tedious and agggravating chore, you can turn control knob with two fingers now. I would suggest Grizzly rethink whatever in the heck it is they are pumping through these machines and listing as a preservative. Material cleaned out that had things locked up looked like hardened lacquer or shellac.
Try It With Water First!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This sprayer works well, once it is going. It is supposed to work first time out of the box, but I could not get it primed at first. I finally had to detach the intake tube and poke around at the intake valve with a screw driver as not compulsory in the distress shooting guide.
My comments refer to use with exterior latex paint, with “floetrol” paint conditioner.
Pros:
*Once it is working, it does a excellent job. It’s so much quicker than a brush or roller for exterior work. The coverage is excellent.
*It’s quite simple to control the spray. I was prepared to work in a spray suit but didn’t need it.
*Clean up is quick and painless.
*It sucks the paint right out of the can so you don’t need to pour the paint into a reservoir as with some sprayers.
* Excellent price.
Cons:
*Problems priming the machine.
*There is not much information in the product manual and some of the icons indicating the settings are not clarified.
*The “one touch” knob is very hard to turn at certain points. I had to keep taking off my plastic gloves to get a excellent grip. That was a hassle. The knob could certainly be designed for a better grip.
*The nozzle should have a swivel connector because the hose is a bit stiff. That could be bought unconnectedly, I reckon.
Overall, I am pleased with the time I have saved using the sprayer. I reckon it this sprayer has already paid for itself after just one paint job. I want to try it indoors with a roller attachment that supposedly can be bought unconnectedly, but so far, I can’t find such a roller.
Product not fantastic … seller horrible !!!

I bought this painter based on calling Grizzly and having them assure me the painter would be groundbreaking new and not a re-pack. When I recieved the, the box was re-taped very heavily and the inside flaps were ripped. So I know it had been opened before. All the hoses and directions were just thrown in the box and all over the place. I had a terrible encounter with 2 others but chose to give this one a shot. I painted with it once and all went pretty OK. A bit of a work cleaning since the supply and output hose are both sitting in the paint. You have to clean them both off and THEN go through the process of running water through the painter first, then through the hose.
Then, the second time I went to use it, it was going fine and then the spray nozzle started clogging. I followed the directions for turning the knob to “clean” to unclog it and then back to spray to paint. Then after about 5 minutes, the spray handle fell apart on me. The spring popped out of the handle lock and paint started oozing out of parts of the handle.
I was a small upset over this since I had problems with 2 other deliveries of this painter but I figured Grizzly would be able to take care of this defect … since I recieve a seemingly used product. After 5 e-mails, they still haven’t responded to me. I had no choice but to file a claim with Amazon against this merchant. I e-mailed them for info about this product before I bought it and they returned it the next day. Now that I have a problem, they have consistently ignored me.
I will pursue this but, all in all, I can’t give a really accurate review about this product because I didn’t recieve a new one. A new one might work fine. But after the deception and ignorance this merchant has shown me, I would Beyond doubt STAY AWAY FROM GRIZZLY !!!
beginner at spraying
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
While reading all the terrible reviews of the dewalt products, one reviewer suggested this product. I couldn’t have made a better choice. You might as well throw the directions in the trash because the symbols on the sprayer do not match the manual. Keep the troubleshooting guide. After figuring out what symbol was for priming the sprayer didn’t prime. I took the suction hose off and stuck a small screwdriver in the inlet to loosen the valve and gasket as per troubleshooting guide and the unit primed. I have had to do this every time. No problem. Just means a excellent seal when not being used. Swivel hose would be fantastic also. The clean up is so simple that it only takes about 5-10 minutes. Fill an ancient paint can up with warm soapy water (for latex paints) and run sprayer until paint is no longer detected, usually a full 1 gallon can. I have had the setting turned nearly all the way up when spraying to avoid splatters and drips. Sprays evenly for a nice end. I highly recommend this unit for beginners like me.
brilliant for exterior latex
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
So far I have used this sprayer for exterior latex and found it simple to use and very simple to clean. It took less time to clean than it takes to clean a roller. There are three small problems that could improve the use -1. the knob is too smooth which makes it hard to turn 2. the symbols are hard to read (looks as if they were painted on with a 2″ brush,3 it would be nice to have a swivel at the hose-gun tie as the hose has a tendency to curl up. These are not significant enough problems to keep me from reccomending this product over several other paint sprayers that I have used in the past.
Works very well!

I looked for 3 months for an low-priced airless to paint the inside and outside of my 2000 sq. ft. house – was unsure about the Wagner products after seeing all the terrible reviews on Amazon. Took a flyer on this unit after seeing a review on Ebay and I have to say that I am impressed so far. After painting 3 rooms in my house with a roller, I had estimated 5 hours for the living room – this small beauty got the job done in about 1.5 hours and I am very impressed with the quality. It took a few minutes to figure out that we had to prime the pump manually with the latex we were using, but once it primed, this unit worked very well on both walls and 10 foot ceilings. Cleanup was very simple (hope we got all the paint out of it!!!), and took only 15 minutes. This was my first encounter with an airless, and I am absolutely sold on this unit for the novice, rare painter. On the downside, we had some paint dust in the house when we were done, but not as terrible as I expected, and certainly not as terrible as it could have been considering it is summertime in Phoenix and we had the doors closed. No drips on the carpet, no paint on my hands; it was a very clean operation.
